At a media event held at Velana International Airport, the one millionth visitor Koralp Guner, arrived with his wife for their honeymoon and was welcomed by officials of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), together with the Ministry of Tourism and representatives of the Maldives Tourism industry.

The Maldives marked its one millionth milestone a month ahead of the arrival figures when compared to 2017. The one millionth mark was reached on the 1st of October 01, 2017.

By the end of August 2017, a total of 892, 025 visitors were recorded to have arrived in the Maldives. This is an increase of 8.3 percent in arrival figures based on arrival figures for the same period this year, where a total of 972,832 visitors were recorded to have arrived by August end. In the year 2017, more than 1.3 million tourists had visited the Maldives.
