To celebrate its 40th birthday, Protea Hotels by Marriott announced the opening of its first property in Angola while further strengthening its portfolio in South Africa with a new property in Pretoria.

The untapped potential of inclusive tourism to drive the growth of Africa’s travel industry was in focus at this year’s Africa Travel Week 2024 part of WTM Africa. A diverse panel of advocates, experts, and tourism suppliers engaged in a discussion, highlighting the significant economic benefits that travellers with disabilities can bring to the continent. 

Radisson Hotel Group is targeting a 50 percent expansion of its West and Central African portfolio, consisting of 29 hotels and over 5,000 rooms in operation and under development, building on the success of its expansion strategy in 2023. Within the past 12 months, the group signed five new hotels, adding over 1,000 rooms to the region's portfolio.

As one of the fastest-growing hotel companies in Africa, Radisson Hotel Group plans to further strengthen its robust African presence this year beyond signings with at least seven hotel openings and over 1,400 rooms.

The transformation of Sheraton Hotels & Resorts – a global brand within Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of 30 extraordinary hotel brands – continues to gain momentum in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) with five redesigned properties exemplifying the modernised design concept: Sheraton Amsterdam Airport, Netherlands; Sheraton Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Sheraton Frankfurt Airport, Germany; Sheraton Grand Krakow, Poland; and Sheraton Djibouti, Djibouti. The refreshed hotels join the growing number of properties around the world displaying the brand’s design transformation, with nearly 50 hotels globally including four other properties in EMEA that are expected to be completed by year’s end.

Marriott International has appointed Richard Collins as its area vice president for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Radisson Hotel Group continues its ambitious African growth and development plan with five new hotel signings secured across the continent to date this year, adding almost 600 rooms to its African portfolio. This year, the group aims to add more than a dozen hotels, reaching just over 100 hotels in operation and under development on the continent.

Radisson Hotel Group has announced its entry into Madagascar with the opening of three hotels: Radisson Blu Hotel, Antananarivo Waterfront, Radisson Hotel Antananarivo Waterfront and Radisson Serviced Apartments Antananarivo City Center.

 

 

Smart Africa and the UAE’s Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote investment into Africa’s digital transformation. The partnership will also see Smart Africa and AIM collaborating on core events to promote dialogue to advance development agendas.
