All participants, including Qasr Al Watan’s staff and members from the respective organizations present were taught the necessary Sign Language needed to communicate with hearing impaired individuals and facilitate an all-inclusive environment for all visitors.
Witnessing centuries of Arabian architectural design on the façade of the palace, visitors were met by the solid maple doors of Qasr Al Watan as they embarked on the journey exposing them to the UAE’s past, present and future. The workshop started with an in-depth presentation on ‘Emirati Sign Language’ followed by an introduction into deaf culture and the history of over 300 sign languages. Afterwards the instructors covered International Sign Language with an interactive session which included how to communicate beyond words with signing and an open discussion for visitors to pose their questions and inquiries.
Concluding their journey, visitors were guided by a designated tour guide through the several zones at Qasr Al Watan where visitors had the chance to explore the vast collection of rare manuscripts and get a glimpse of how modernity and history come together under the roof of Qasr Al Watan.
