Roman Dynasty Temple Unearthed in Siwa

Archaeologists in Siwa, Egypt, have uncovered the remains of a temple dating back to the dynasty of Antoninus Pius, a Roman emperor from 138 to 161 AD.

Found at el Haj Ali village in Siwa, the ruins of the temple include a large building and two smaller chambers, all surrounded by an outer wall, revealed, Ayman Ashmawi, head, department, Ancient Egyptian Antiquities, Egypt.

The new discovery reflects the history and civilization of the North Coast and Siwa Oasis area during the Roman age, Ashmawi added.

Archaeologists also found a limestone painting that contains Greek inscriptions during excavation, noted, Abdel Aziz el Demery, head, archaeological mission, Mersa Matrouh and Siwa.

Although the painting had been broken into three parts, it was in otherwise good condition.
