Louvre Abu Dhabi Receives Iron Age Axe

Al Ain National Museum loaned a bronze axe from the Iron Age, to The Louvre Abu Dhabi.

The axe was cast from copper from the Al Hajjar mountains, possibly mixed with a small amount of tin.

Throughout the ancient history of the UAE, these mountains were a major source of the precious metal and fuelled an innovative metal-working tradition.

The craftsmanship and form of the axe is a result of the long tradition of metal working.

Other weapons produced during this period include arrowheads, short daggers and swords.
