Airbnb managed to increase its revenue by 40 percent year-over-year as guests booked 393.7 million nights and experiences in 2022, up 31 percent year-on-year (YoY). The gross booking value of those nights and experiences totalled USD63 billion, a YoY jump of 31 percent.
Revenue totalled USD1.9 billion in the fourth quarter (Q4) 2022, demonstrating strong continued strong travel demand heading into the current year.
Buoyed by an increase in international travel, Airbnb enjoyed more bookings in 2022, which helped drive revenue for the company and its hosts.
Airbnb exhibited strong growth in nights and experiences booked, which was the catalyst behind nearly 13.5 billion in gross booking revenue in Q4 2022 alone.
Overall, nights and experiences booked brought in USD63.2 billion in gross booking value in 2022, up 35 percent compared to 2021 and 67 percent over the last three years.
Airbnb is hosting more nights and experiences than ever before. The online short-stay marketplace finished off the year strong by hosting 88.2 million nights and experiences in Q4 2022, a 20 percent jump compared to the prior year.
In total, nights and experiences booked rose by 31 percent YoY to 393.7 million in 2022. The number of listings sky-rocketed from 5.7 million at the beginning of 2022 to 6.6 million at the end of the year, excluding China.
Overall, the number of Airbnb listings was up 15.7 percent year-over-year. UNWTO estimates that international tourist arrivals could reach 80 to 95 percent of pre-pandemic levels this year.
