UNWTO Invests in Biodiversity Conservation

On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, celebrated on May 22, World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) launched a capacity building programme dedicated to sustainable tourism and biodiversity protection in Western and Central African countries.

Aiming to address issues related to conservation and environmental protection in order to safeguard future opportunities for local people, a number of seminars will begin in June.

Through the training sessions, UNWTO expects to continue to strengthen capacities of tourism stakeholders so they gain a better understanding of the relationship between tourism and environmental protection, while developing tourism products based on the area’s unique biodiversity.

Tourism employees and small entrepreneurs will be the primary beneficiaries of the initiative.
