Mauritius Witnessed Increase from Saudi Tourists

According to the latest statistics released from the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA), visitors to Mauritius from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia increased 49 percent between the months of January and July compared to the same period in 2018.

A total of 13,704 Saudi visitors were recorded over the period, a sharp rise from the 9,190 individuals recorded during the same period in 2018, increasing Saudi Arabia’s ranking from 12th to 10th most important international market for inbound travellers to Mauritius.

The increase is reflective of MTPA’s ongoing promotional and marketing activities in the Kingdom to raise the awareness of Mauritius as an ideal destination for Saudi honeymooners and families seeking a paradise destination that is welcoming and friendly, offers numerous family attractions, luxury experiences, as well as exceptional Halal dining options, water activities and year-round adventures.

Arvind Bundhun, director, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, highlighted, “Saudia Arabia is a key strategic market for Mauritius, one which we will continue to proactively engage with, so that more Saudis can experience and enjoy all that our island nation has to offer.”

Bundhun added, “Saudia Airlines has been instrumental in their contribution towards the seamless link of passengers between our two countries. Through such strategic partnerships, and the ongoing activities of our Saudi representative office, we are confident that the upward trend in visitor numbers from the Kingdom will continue in the interim.”
